Guggul is a resinous substance that is obtained from the tree. It is a gum resin emitted by plants during extreme heat. This plant grows as a small tree and reaches 4-5 feet in height. Its branches are prickly. While the fresh guggul is soft and sticky, it becomes a solid substance when dried. It is hot and bitter. To obtain gum, a circular cut is made in the main stem of its plant. Through these cuts, the aromatic liquid rapidly solidifies to a golden brown or reddish-brown colour. The resin obtained is Guggul which is used for medicinal purposes.
