Chironji is mostly used in homes as dry fruits. Some people use chironji to make sweets and some people make a sweet dish but do you know that Chironji is also beneficial for health? These benefits of Chironji have also been mentioned in Ayurveda. Ayurvedic practitioners believe that chironji is a confirmatory substance that helps in increasing the strength and sexual ability of the body.

 

The scientific name of Chironji is Buchanania lanzan which is found in many parts of India. The Chironji tree remains green throughout the year. Its height is about 12–18 m and has a thick and rough bark. This tree of chironji has many medicinal properties due to which its leaf, fruit, seed, root, and gum are used in Ayurveda for the treatment of many diseases. The fruit or grain known as Chironji is actually the inner part of the seed of the fruit of its tree which is extracted by breaking its seed.

 
Benefits of Chironji
For Immunity-

According to a research report by the Indian Journal of Pharmacology, the use of extracts of chironji seeds works to increase white blood cells. White blood cells are a valuable part of the immune system which works to protect the body from the harmful effects of bacteria, parasites, fungi, and viruses. On this basis, chironji is considered good for increasing immunity.

 
For Constipation-

It is good to use Chironji for constipation because chironji has a laxative property that helps in loosening the stool out. Therefore, consuming Chironji provides relief in constipation problems.

 
For Headache-

Chironji seeds are used in the problem of headaches. It has analgesic (pain-relieving) properties that work to relieve headaches.

 
For Diarrhea-

Chironji is beneficial in diarrhea. According to a research report by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), the root of Chironji has an astringent effect that provides relief in diarrhea. Apart from this, taking powder of the bark of the Chironji tree with honey also relieves dysentery (infectious diarrhea).

 
For Diabetes-

According to research related to Chironji, it proves beneficial in the problem of diabetes. Actually, the antidiabetic effect is present in extracts of Chironji leaves which helps in reducing blood sugar by increasing the activation of insulin. In addition, chironji seeds have also been considered useful for diabetes.

 
For Hair-

Chironji has also been considered very effective for hair. There are certain qualities in Chironji which help in the conditioning of the hair and make it soft and shiny and also provide sufficient moisture. Therefore, extracts of Chironji leaves can be used as herbal conditioners.

 
For skin-

Chironji is considered good for the skin. According to experts, applying Chironji seed paste with rose water and applying it on the skin gives a glow to the skin which makes the skin look smooth and soft. Apart from this, chewing chironji reduces skin irritation, and using its oil removes skin stains.

 
For arthritis pain and inflammation-

Grind chironji, sesame, lotus, mulethi, and cane root in goat milk according to the need. Now apply this paste on the painful and inflamed part of the joints. This will provide quick relief.

 
To increase sexual stamina-

According to Ayurvedic experts, Chironji is a beneficial medicine for people with weak sexual abilities. Therefore, grind 5-10 grams of chironji seeds and take them with milk containing sugar candy. By doing this, semen gets necessary nutrition and sexual capacity is strengthened.

 
When bleeding from the nose and ears-

Many people have problem of bleeding in the nose or ear in summer. In such a situation, they should eat milk cooked with chironji. It cures blood problems (bleeding from the nose, ears).

 
Side-effects of Chironji
  • Chironji leaves have antidiabetic (blood sugar lowering) properties. Therefore, people suffering from low blood sugar should avoid using its extract.
  • The laxative property in chironji is found to be at a good level. Therefore, excessive consumption can cause diarrhea.
  • Chironji seeds have an analgesic (pain-relieving) effect. Therefore, excessive use should be avoided because of an increase in the amount of analgesic in the body, fatigue, weakness, and nausea-vomiting can occur.
  • People who are allergic to nuts should not consume Chironji.
