Palash is an Indian tree in origin and is easily found anywhere in the country but mostly it is seen in the forests. Its flowers are red in colour and the leaves fall during the summer and almost the entire tree appears red during its blooming season. For this reason it is also known as forest flame. Palash trees are medium-sized and grow in dry areas. The height of this tree is about 15 meters and the length of its leaves is 10-20 centimeters. Its leaves are in clusters of three leaves. Its flowers are 2.5 cm long in red or orange color out of which about 15 cm long bean-like fruits are produced. The outer part of this fruit is brown in color and covered with fibers. The root, bark, leaves, flowers and fruits of Palash are used for Ayurvedic benefits.

Nutrients of Palash tree

The scientific name of the Palash tree is Butea monosperma. Palash is commonly used as anthelmintic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, diuretic, for the treatment of diabetic diseases.

All the nutrients are found in the Palash tree. Glycosides, linoleic acid, oleic acid, leucocyanidin, esters, sterols, Friedelin and quercetin are present in good amounts. Apart from these, it also contains flavonoids, gallic acid, pyrotec chin, triter pain, isobutrin, coreopsin, isocor opsin, tannin, ketones, polysaccharide sitosterol and tiglic acid.

Beneficial in diabetes-

Consumption of Palash is considered good for diabetic patients as it contains antihyperglycemic properties, which help in controlling diabetes. According to research published on the website of NCBI (National Center for Biotechnology Information), diabetes and serum cholesterol can be controlled by consuming 200 mg of palash powder daily. Palash is traditionally used to treat various eye problems. It is beneficial in eye problems like night blindness and cataract. For this, putting a few drops of the extract of Palash root regularly in the eyes ends all the problems related to the eyes.
